Physical Education
Preston Primary School offers a comprehensive Physical Education program with a strong emphasis on promoting enjoyment in all sports. Positive sportsmanship is a big focus, including self-control, cooperation, tolerance and respect for others.
All students have one 50 minute Physical Education session per week. Throughout the year students will further develop and refine their skills in the following areas: fundamental movement skills, sport specific skills, modified games and major games.
All Grade 5 and 6 students participate in a weekly Interschool Sport program every Friday in Terms 1 and 2, concentrating on the major summer and winter games. The Preston District Primary School Sports Association (PDPSSA) organises these matches. In Term 1 the summer sports are Tee Ball, Rounders, Bat Tennis and Cricket. In term 2 the winter sports are Soccer, Football and Netball. Preston Primary School enter 2 teams per sport wherever possible to allow for maximum student participation.
Grade 4, 5 and 6 students have the opportunity to participate in the District Swimming Carnival in Term 1, Cross Country Competition in Term 2 and the District Athletics Carnival in Term 3. We also enter teams in District Tournaments for Basketball and Futsal. Swimming lessons operate in Term 4 for Grades 2 to 6.
